Our Mission

​Who We Are

Pack, Troop, and Crew 229 in Independence, Missouri is a long-standing Scouts BSA Unit that has been serving the community for over 50 years. The Unit is chartered by the First Christian Church of Independence and is open to all youth 5 years old and up.

​

Our Units meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7pm at the First Christian Church. During the weekly meetings, Pack, Troops, and Crew participate in a variety of activities, such as:

​

  • Learning about scouting skills, such as knot tying, first aid, and camping

  • Participating in community service projects

  • Planning for camping trips and other outdoor adventures

  • Earning badges and awards

​What We Offer

Scouting is a youth led program that offers a variety of benefits to its participants, including:

  • Character development: Scouting instills in youth the values of the Scout Oath and Law

  • Leadership skills: Scouting provides opportunities for youth to develop their leadership skills through a variety of activities, such as planning and leading camping trips, serving as patrol leaders, and participating in leadership training.

  • Citizenship skills: Scouting teaches youth about their civic responsibility and encourages them to get involved in their communities. Youth participate in a variety of service projects, such as cleaning up parks, helping at food banks, and volunteering at community events.

  • Personal fitness: Scouting encourages youth to stay active and healthy through a variety of outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking, and biking. Youth also learn about the importance of nutrition and how to make healthy choices.

  • Life skills: Scouting teaches youth a variety of life skills, such as knot tying, first aid, and navigation. These skills can be used in a variety of situations, both in and out of scouting.

  • Friendships: Scouting provides opportunities for youth to make new friends and develop camaraderie. Youth form strong bonds with their fellow scouts and leaders, which can last a lifetime.

  • Fun: Scouting is a fun and exciting way for youth to spend their time. They get to participate in a variety of activities, explore the outdoors, and learn new skills.

   LEADING YOUTH TO LIFELONG VALUES

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is a character-building youth organization that has been guiding young people towards lifelong values for over a century. Through its programs, Scouts learn and embody essential values such as honesty, trustworthiness, courtesy, kindness, obedience, cheerfulness, thriftiness, bravery, cleanliness, and reverence.

In addition to its character-building and fun-filled activities, Scouting also provides opportunities for community service. Scouts learn about the importance of giving back to their communities, and they participate in a variety of service projects, such as helping to clean up parks, collecting food for the needy, and delivering toys to children in need.
