About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Pack, Troop, and Venture Crew 229 in Independence, Missouri is a long-standing BSA unit that has been serving the community for over 50 years. The unit is chartered by the First Christian Church of Independence and is open to all youth in the 5 years old and up.

The collective unit meets weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7pm the First Christian Church. During the weekly meetings, scouts participate in a variety of activities, such as:

  • Learning about scouting skills, such as knot tying, first aid, and camping

  • Participating in community service projects

  • Planning and going on camping trips and other outdoor adventures

  • Earning badges and awards

Our Story

FCC 229 is a great place for youth to learn new skills, make new friends, and have fun while exploring the outdoors. The troop also provides opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills and become involved in their communities.

Troop 229 is a member of the Heart of America Council, which serves over 20,000 scouts in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. The Boy Scouts of America is a national organization that provides character development and leadership training for youth and young men and women. Scouts learn about citizenship, fitness, and environmental stewardship while enjoying a variety of activities, such as camping, hiking, and fishing.

Scouting is a great way for you to develop into well-rounded adults. Scouts learn to be:
